The Importance Of pH In Drinking Water

As the human body is about 67 percent water it is important to ensure we keep our bodies hydrated with the best water we can.

We are learning more and more that the root cause of disease is in the acidity in our bodies. Nobel Prize Winner Dr Otto Warburg stated: “Disease can not survive in an Alkaline Body”.

The pH scale measures how acidic or basic a substance is. The pH scale ranges from 0 to 14. A pH of 7 is neutral. A pphscaleWebH less than 7 is acidic. A pH greater than 7 is basic.

The pH scale is logarithmic and as a result, each whole pH value below 7 is ten times more acidic than the next higher value. For example, pH 4 is ten times more acidic than pH 5 and 100 times (10 times 10) more acidic than pH 6. The same holds true for pH values above 7, each of which is ten times more alkaline (another way to say basic) than the next lower whole value. For example, pH 10 is ten times more alkaline than pH 9 and 100 times (10 times 10) more alkaline than pH 8.

Pure water is neutral. But when chemicals are mixed with water, the mixture can become either acidic or basic. Examples of acidic substances are vinegar and lemon juice. Lye, milk of magnesia, and ammonia are examples of basic substances.

Because of the chemical content of the disinfectant used for municipal tap water the only way that tap water can be pH neutral or better is for additional chemicals to be added. But this doesn’t neutralize the actual chemicals in the water!

To do this the water boards use alkalis such as soda ash, bicarb or caustic soda to bring up the pH from an acidic reading to one around pH neutral.

To be cynical, this is mainly to prevent corrosion and polution of the city water systems rather than for our health benefits.

But this doesn’t neutralize the actual chemicals in the water!

So…… we need to be careful when we drink our water.

toxins in drinking waterIn my opinion then, something as natural as water should not be adding to our bodies acidity it should be helping us to become more Alkaline!

More and more we are being inundated with food and drink that add to our acidity – from burger meals, to sugary drinks and prepared meals from the supermarket! Shouldn’t the water we drink be helping our health not adding to the number of chemicals our body is forced to absorb?

So for me, it is a most sensible decision to drink water that is first cleansed through a filter to rid the water of chemicals and impurities and then help us to be more alkaline by ionizing to be pH 8.5 plus!

Filtering the water is one way of ridding your water of chemicals but if you chose this option you still will not improve the alkalinity of your water from the neutral at best.
